Patrick Marshall, 1869–1950


Geologist Patrick Marshall was the first to propose that the border of the Pacific Basin was the underwater ridge running northwards from New Zealand toward Fiji and westward towards the Solomon Islands. Today, this is recognised as the boundary between the Australian and Pacific plates.
