Charting the sea floor

John Peter Bollons, 1862–1929


Mariner John Bollons worked on steamers for the Marine Department, developing a detailed knowledge of the coastline through charting, maintaining navigational aids, and servicing lighthouses. A large seamount 560 kilometres south of the Chatham Islands is named after him.
