Charles Alexander Fleming, 1916-87

With qualifications in zoology and geology, Charles Fleming worked for the Geological Survey from 1940 to 1977 as a paleontologist. He had wide-ranging interests, but his major work was a detailed study of the Pliocene and Pleistocene rock sequences in the Wanganui region Here he identified changes in sea level, now recognised worldwide, from his knowledge of the ecology of mollusca.
