Sea surface temperatures, 1993–2002
This map shows New Zealand’s mean annual sea surface temperatures for 1993–2002 in degrees celsius. These have a profound impact on New Zealand’s climate, which is temperate. The air arriving from the north is cooled, while the air from the south is warmed. The expansive surrounding oceans also mean that air coming from both directions arrives with high humidity.
