Three frigates were dispatched on 3 July 1950 to support the United Nations forces and in the end all six frigates of the RNZN and half the total complement, 1,350 men, saw service. Until March 1954 two frigates were kept on station and after that date one remained to police the cease-fire. The frigates all completed eight tours of duty. In the course of the campaign they intercepted pirate attacks on shipping, helped to beat off invasion attempts, made commando landings to take prisoners, patrolled offshore, and bombarded shore targets. Altogether they steamed 339,584 miles and fired 71,625 rounds of ammunition. Two RNZN men were killed in this campaign and one wounded.
