Westport cement works

Westport is ideally situated for the manufacture of cement, with abundant limestone at Cape Foulwind and high-quality coal from the nearby Buller coalfield. This film clip from 1959 shows the early days of the cement works, which was to grow to become the largest employer in the Buller district.
