Winemakers: Jane and Ernie Hunter

Ernie Hunter, pictured with wife Jane in the mid-1980s, established Hunter’s Wines in 1979. The vineyard’s sauvignon blanc won awards at London wine festivals in the mid-1980s. After Ernie died in a car crash in 1987, Jane took over the reins. In 2019 Hunter's remained family-owned, with Jane Hunter the managing director. She had been appointed to the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) for services to viticulture.
