Dairy factory, Temuka

These farmers, with their horses and carts, are outside the Temuka dairy factory, about 1901. They are delivering milk in cans for the production of butter and cheese. In the South Island, sheep and cropping dominated farming, but small dairy farms were common on heavy soils around many small towns in the region.
