Story: East Coast region

Marae in the Waiapu River valley

The Waiapu River valley is the heartland of Ngāti Porou. A large number of marae are found in the valley and in neighbouring areas, both in townships such as Tikitiki and Ruatōria and in more rural settings. All the marae in the district are marked on this map by an icon. Click on the names of a selection of 12 to view a photograph.
