Economic differences in Christchurch

There is controversy over whether there are greater social distinctions in Christchurch than in other parts of New Zealand. But it is clear that there are marked economic differences within the city – for instance between the wealthier (shading to green) north-western suburbs such as Fendalton and Merivale, and poorer (shading to red) southern suburbs such as Addington and Sydenham. This map shows a city of two halves.
